Say Yes

“Say Yes is a highly virtuosic violin solo written for Tim Fain in late 2020.  It’s an energetic, quirky, and exciting piece designed to be idiomatic and challenging at the same time.  During a time when I was not sure of very much (to be fair, neither was the rest of the world – thank you COVID), it was empowering to write this piece and ‘say yes’ to life and to joy.  ‘Say yes’ to the musical voice I always knew that I wanted to express.  And most importantly, ‘say yes’ to the life I had just begun to build with my wife, Lilith, who I love infinitely and at the same time more and more everyday.”

Fun Fact: when presented during Composition Seminar at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in spring 2021, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Du Yun said, “It’s the kind of piece that makes you say, ‘I wish I wrote that.'”  I still haven’t forgotten!
