Interim

“Interim is a percussion quintet written in 2018 for the University of North Florida Percussion Ensemble.  The title has both literal and metaphorical significance.  In a literal sense, this piece was written in the summer between my junior and senior years of undergraduate studies—that summer was an ‘interim’ period between academic years.  But the piece itself also has its own ‘interim’ with the marimba’s presence.  It begins in the middle of the piece, as if it’s already somewhere in the middle of its development.  And awareness of the marimba’s voice leads to changes in the tom-and-pipe voices.”
